Hello, and welcome to the Colorado Varmint Hunter's page. I am a Varmint Hunter from Colorado. I have been into the sport for about 4 or 5 years. My first big hunt was in 1997. When my cousin and hunting partner and I went to the Rose bud Reservation in South Dakota hunting for prairie dogs. In 1998 we hunted in the Wyoming grass lands for free. No hunting license is required for resident or non-resident hunters, that are hunting prairie dogs. In 1999 we hunted in Montana near Zortman, Mt. Montana has free hunting of prairie dogs on public lands. The summer of 2000 we hunted the Wyoming grass lands to start off with. Then we headed over to South Dakota for another week of hunting on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation. For something different we headed up to North Dakota and gave them a try. We even went into Montana for a few days. We finished up our 3rd week of our hunting vacation right back in South Dakota again. It turned out to be a very nice vacation with good hunting and seeing a lot of this great country of ours. As of October 2000 I retired and have been RVing since that date. For the last 2 winters I have been Camp Hosting at the Fort Stevens State Park, in Oregon. Free camping and utilities while you are hosting. At this time I am a volunteer, working at the Avon Park A. F. Range in Florida. This is a Air Force bombing range, that is a 106,000 acre military installation. Approximately 82,000 acres are open to public access on a regular basis for outdoor recreational activities. This includes hunting hogs, deer, turkeys and small game and fishing, boating, camping, and hiking. I have been working as a volunteer at the Avon Park Air Force Range, Outdoor Recreation dept. since 2002. This will be my 4th season down here at the Avon Park Air Force Range, and I really enjoy my volunteer work. Working with the hunters and staff is quite enjoyable. If it was not for all of the volunteers that come down here to help out, there would not be a hunt program. This is what I am told by the staff. So far this season of 2005 we have not been hit by any hurricanes and lets hope it stays that way. As of March 2006, I was forced back into retirement do to being diagnosed with congestive heart failure. With no health insurance and not a lot of funds, the cost of doctors and drugs are unbelievable. So I have come back home to Colorado to find a solution to my health problems and the lack of funds. At this time, I am still having chest pain and shortness of breath, and am unable to afford to go to the doctor or hospital. Hopefully after the first of the year, I can get some health insurance, that is, if they will accept my preexisting condition. If not, then I will have a 12 month waiting period before they will cover me. So, any and all donations will be gratefully accepted and appreciated.
